At Fooda, we love lunch, we love numbers, and we love tracking food trends. Through our 10 million meals sold, we’ve uncovered interesting trends about how Americans are lunching through the seasons and across the country.
Just like the seasons, our data shows lunch habits change throughout the year. In the summer, Mediterranean and Mexican sales increase nationwide and in the winter, Thai, BBQ, Pizza and Asian Fusion all take a jump. The only catch to the winter comfort food trend? New Year’s resolutions have healthy food sales rising 37% in January as compared to December.
Our data also found that we like to start the week off strong with purchasing 18% healthy food for lunch, but by the end of the week we’re craving BBQ.
Nationwide, regions differ with their favorite lunch. Bostonians dream of warmth with Mediterranean lunches, Cuban tops the lunch charts with New Yorkers, Chicago stays true to its Midwestern roots with All-American, Nashville and Atlanta love their BBQ and Los Angelinos crave French cuisine. Philly foodies have the most diverse pallet with Mediterranean, Caribbean and sushi all taking the lead.
