A cozy and romantic BYOB, Soprano’s Deli & Catering belies its name with homemade meatballs, sausage and peppers, and the best chicken cutlets in Delaware County. We spoke with owner Armen Kazanjian to learn what makes Soprano’s stand out as one of the top Italian eateries on the East Coast and even scored the recipe for one of their sumptuous pasta dishes.
Why do you think consumers voted Soprano’s Best Italian Lunch in Philly?
Today’s consumer is able to tell the difference between a restaurant that serves authentic Italian food and one that’s pretending. We pride ourselves on quality, we don’t take any shortcuts, and I think that shows in the end result.
What inspired the menu at Soprano’s?
Our menu is inspired by staple dishes you’d find in an Italian household. We infuse the food with a taste of Italy; yet strive keep things simple at the same time. Think roasted pork, sausage and peppers, and homemade meatballs. We also have a wide variety of pasta dishes in the restaurant that speak to our Italian roots.
What is your most popular dish?
We’re well known for our classic Italian dishes – meatballs, eggplant Parmesan, ravioli, sausage and peppers, and chicken cutlets.
What are some food trends you’re seeing in Philly?
BYOB restaurants are popping up more and more. I’ve also noticed that restaurants are focusing more on the quality of their food, versus producing mass quantities.
Do you have any exciting plans for Soprano’s in 2017?
We’re just going to continue to do what we’re doing. As long as our customers are happy, we’re happy. A large part of our business is catering and we strive to make sure our customers are satisfied.
